Travertine Paver Joints - Pavers Set On Concrete - Thinset
by: Susan

Hi Rob,
I am not sure if you can use thinset or another product. You might check with a mason. As far as the joints go, I would recommend using concrete. If you use sand, the water that gets in the joints from rain, etc. will percolate down to the concrete and then will have no where to go.

Dry laid methods and sand joints is best when there is a stone base underneath so that water does not collect. This stone base allows the water to go down and not compromise the hardscape.

Travertine on concrete
by: Rob

We recently sand set travertine pavers for our back patio. We have extra pavers and I would like to place them over our existing front porch which is concrete. The concrete is in great shape but it is very smooth. Can I use a thin-set (versabond) directly on the exising concrete porch to wet set the pavers? I would like to do it without grouting (butting next to each other like the sand set on the back patio). If I can do this, would I use the joint sand in any cracks as I would with sand set?

Thanks!
