Sketchup Components - Four Sources For 3D Components
What are Sketchup Components?
Components are already created objects, such as a person, that can be placed in your design. Sketchup offers its own array of components, but you can also get them from other sources also.
Sketchup is not only for landscape design but also for many other topics, such as Architecture, Interior Design and so on. So you can imagine all of the objects that are available.
For landscape design, however, you would want to concentrate on the type of components used in the garden. People, outdoor kitchens, cars, pools, patio fire pits, sculptures, fountains and fencing are just some examples.
In this Sketchup design that I did for a client, you will see various components. The person came from Sketchup software itself. The table and chairs are from Google Warehouse, while the plants are from Entourage Arts.
You can pause the video at any time to take a closer look.

So where do you find great Sketchup components?
As mentioned components are available in Sketchup itself, whether you are using the free version or the Pro version. Yet there are other sources too. You just have to make sure that they are 3D enabled, so that when you look at your design, the components appear in 3D (as opposed to 2D or flat) from all angles.
Google Warehouse The first place I would look if you go beyond those offered in Sketchup is Google Warehouse. This is a free source where there are objects designed by everyday people. Some are not that great, but some are extremely sophisticated.
You can also modify them by exploding the component into parts.
Entourage Arts This company offers beautiful and artistic plants for Sketchup. They resemble water colors. You can buy them in groups or individually. They also have a wide selection of people which are very nice also. Just about all of the plants in my 3D designs are from Entourage Arts.
Formfonts This is another source with a wide selection. You must buy the components also. Be sure to select the objects for Sketchup.
