Shady and Sloped Yard in Zone 5

I have a very shaded, very sloped yard and I am not a green thumb or gardener. I need major help, and I am on a tight budget. How and what can I plant? I know I have pines and maple trees that border the property on a small lot size. I tried grass but it turns to mud.

Groundcover For Shady Slopes
by: Susan

I would suggest a mixture of Pachysandra and Ajuga. These are both groundcovers and take the shade. Ajuga comes in different colors and can be aggressive, which is good in your situation. Pachysandra has green foliage with white flowers in the spring.

Add them in large groups of one kind, then alternate groups with the other variety so a type of tapestry is created.

The mix of the two together will add some interest. You can also add a small tree if you like.
