Landscape Tree Advice For A Small Front Yard

by LisaMarie
(Euclid, Ohio)

What is the best type of landscape tree to use in a front yard landscape design? The yard is approx 1000 sq ft. We want to utilize about a 1/4 of the yard for decorative stone and a nice tree.

We reside in Euclid, Ohio - a suburb of Cleveland. We don't want a really large tree. I have seen trees in our area that resemble tiny weeping willows? They flower... what could these be? What is the best type of decorative stone to use? Our house is red brick veneer so we want it to match...any advise would be very helpful.
thank you....

ANSWER

You might consider a White Birch. Although they get tall, they are not that wide, and the bottom branches can be limbed up to show off the beautiful white bark - which would look great against red brick! Don't be afraid to use a tall tree, as long as it doesn't get very wide.

Instead of a tree, a group of tall shrubs would work too... 3 Lilacs?

I am not sure what that small tree you mentioned is, but if you send a picture I will take a look.

As far as stone goes, I like to use mulch myself. However, if you go ahead with the stone, river rock is very nice and it comes in different sizes. You probably would want the medium or large size. These stones are smooth and polished looking...continually washed from the rivers.
