Garden Bulbs & Recommendations

Garden bulbs are a wonderful addition to the landscape. They are particularly nice for early Spring color. They are always such a nice surprise when all of a sudden....there they are!

My Top 3 Recommended Bulbs

There is a beautiful Tulip that I would recommend. It is called Weber's Parrot. It is a mostly a lovely shade of pink, yet there is a little ivory and green showing also. Being that it is a Parrot tulip, it is very showy! It grows 15 to 17 inches high. And it is ruffled! It is a wonderful Tulip for the mid to late spring garden.

Narcissus February Gold is a wonderful very early blooming Daffodil. They will multiply over the years (what could be better?!), and they will bloom for 4 weeks. They grow in clumps which give a very full look and are 12 inches high. You will be happy with these year after year.

If you are one that loves LOTS of color, you might consider having a companion to the Daffodils. Muscari 'Grape Hyacinth', is one of my favorites. They are a deep violet-blue and complement the daffodils in both color, texture and size. They are 6 to 8 inches tall. Like the Narcissus February Gold Daffodil, these garden bulbs multiply year after year.

As far as planting design for the Grape Hyacinths and the Daffodils go, I would alternate them in groups. You might have a mass of Daffodils, then some Grape Hyacinths, and then the Daffodils again. Also, you can place some Grape Hyacinth in front of the daffodils, since they are lower. Together they are very eye-catching.

Plant the Parrot Tulips wherever you would like some beautiful color after the Daffodils and grape Hyacinths are finished. They make quite a display.

The key to an exciting bulb display is to plant them in large numbers. I can't tell you exact numbers, because I don't know the size of your garden areas, but you can't have to many. The more you have the more striking they will be!
